Sophomore year: It gets better!

Summer passed; it was great having our college guy home. Parents told us that we would be so happy when the retreated back to college, but for us, it wasn't that way. We loved every minute, and we were just as sad the second time around as we were the first day we moved him into the dorm the year prior. The thing that was different is this year he was in a house with 3 other swimmers and they looked upon themselves as a "family" and we knew he would blossom in this environment. His own room, a place to call "home." Of course with this came more responsibility, learning how to cook, getting from the house to campus (we bought him a used bike) and the overall chores that come with living in a house. He seems to be thriving. He is swimming much better than all of last year. His study hall habits are much improved, and he IS learning to cook. I will never forget the call I got about how to make lasagna! I was impressed. I had to explain what/where ricotta cheese could be found! :) Saying goodbye is still difficult, but my heart feels much better knowing he is happy and that there are 3 other "bros" looking out for him! My Junior in high school is enjoying having things to himself, again, after a summer full of readjustment!!! He is doing well on his club swim team and starting to look to college for a journalism degree and a minor in swimming!! I am anticipating CD's return from school in less than a week, as it's nearing Thanksgiving. I've planned lots of activities for family time!! My heart is full right now, and I LOVE being the mom of two young men!!
